Visa applications, as well as commercial documents which need  legalisation, must be lodged and collected at the Consulate. Also, applications by post must be sent at the Consulate address: 5 Portal Way, London W3 6RT.

Note: Applications for Diplomatic visa / Official visa (visa de service) / Press accreditation visa to be lodged and collected at the Algerian Embassy, located at 1-3 Riding House Street London W1W 7DR.

Who needs a visa to enter Algeria ?

Who can apply for a visa ?

All non-Algerians need to apply for a visa to enter Algeria. There are exceptions for some nationals of foreign countries, listed below, who are exempted from visa

All Nationals from: Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Seychelles, Tunisia.

The Consulate of Algeria in London will process visa applications made by applicants residing in the UK and the Republic of Ireland only. Others foreign citizens must provide proof of residence in the UK or Ireland. Regardless their age, kids travelling with parents need a visa. 

 

Lodging of applications:

Applicants must lodge their applications in person (no spouse or other third person) or by couriers at the Consulate between 9:30 am - 01:00 pm, Tuesday to Saturday or can also be made by mail.

(since working hour can be adjusted according to the Islamic holidays including Ramadan, please see Opening hours & holidays page for more details);

Applicants by post residing in the UK must send a prepaid self-addressed special delivery envelope for returning the passport(s);

Applicants by post living in Ireland must send a postal order of £8 (returning passport(s) fees).

Note: any incomplete application, including the form, will be either rejected if lodged in person at the Consulate or returned to the sender if made by mail.

Required documents


Applicants for an entry visa to Algeria must provide the documents detailed below:

Application forms:

Two (02) application forms duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant;

The application forms must be fully filled on screen (Answer all the questions and fill out all the sections), printed, dated and signed by the applicant;

Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected;

The application form is not electronically sent and data are not stored in our database, the applicants must bring or send it by post to the Algerian Consulate (visa section).

Passport:

The original passport + 02 sets of copies of all the pages (even the blank ones); Those holding more than one passport, please provide them;

Passport must have at least six (06 )months remaining validity and contain at least two (02) blank visa pages for visa to be issued.

Photos:

Two (02) passport size photographs to be affixed on each application form;

Photos must be recent, frontal-view, of the same batch, untouched and taken on white background and showing applicant wearing no glasses of any kind, except for prescription eyewear. Please write first and last names of applicant in pencil on back of photos.

Travel insurance:

Travel insurance is not required for British and Irish citizens.

The travel insurance is mandatory for the citizens of the following countries :

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands (The), New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,Romania.

In addition to Application forms, passport, photographs and travel insurance (if required), applicants for an entry visa to Algeria must provide the documents detailed below according to each visa category they are applying for.

No scanned or faxed documents are accepted; Applications sent by fax will not be processed;

The consulate reserves the right to ask for additional documents to be provided;

Tourist visa

  1. "Accommodation certificate" (certificat d'hébergement légalisé par l'A.P.C.) duly certified by the local authorities in Algeria bearing the name of the person inviting you, their relationship to you and the address where you will be staying during your visit to Algeria or, when applicable, a confirmation of a hotel booking or an official invitation with itinerary from a travel agency in Algeria;
  2. For children under 18, a copy of their "birth certificate" is required when apply for a visa, as well as a"Parental Authorisation";
  3. "Letter of employment" or "evidence of activity or income";

Family visa

  1. Ifthe applicant is a spouse of an Algerian citizen:
  • he/she should submit a copy of the valid consulate registration card of his/her spouse + a copy of the "marriage certificate" issued by the register office or a "copy of the Algerian family book"
  • If the spouse is not registered at the Algerian Consulate in London, the applicant should provide an accommodation certificate duly certified by the local authorities (town hall) in Algeria (certificat d'hébergement légalisé par l'A.P.C.) including the name of the family member inviting the applicant, their relationship to him and the address where he will be staying during his visit to Algeria;
  • The spouse of an Algerian citizen must lodge his/her application in person or send by post.
  1. For children under 18 a copy of their "birth certificate" is required when apply for a visa, as well as a"Parental Authorisation";

Business visa (short stay)

  1. "Letter of the employer in the UK or Ireland" stating the position held by the applicant and the purpose of the visit;
  2. "Letter of invitation" from the sponsoring company or institution in Algeria;

Work visa

  1. The original + a copy of the "work contract";
  2. "Temporary work permit" issued by the Algerian authorities, labor office of the Wilaya where the applicant will be working.
  3. "letter of repatriation" signed by the employer and sealed by the labour office of the Wilaya where the applicant will be working.

Temporary work visa

  1. The original + a copy of the "work contract" which does not exceed 90 days signed by the employer in Algeria,
  2. " Temporary work permit" delivered by the Ministry of Labor, Department of Labor at the Wilaya where the employer is based.
  3. "Letter of the employer in the UK or Ireland" stating the position held by the applicant and the purpose of the visit;
  4. A "letter of repatriation" issued by the relevant services signed by the employer and sealed by the labor office of the Wilaya where the applicant will be working, in which the employer certifies to undertake full financial responsibilities for repatriation of their foreign workers upon completion of their work contract;

A temporary work visa can also be issued to foreigner holder "an assistance contract or provision of services" concluded by itself or his employer organization in the UK or Ireland with a company or organization carrying an activity in Algeria.

Cultural visa

Note: this type of visa is issued to people invited to take part in a cultural, scientific, social or sports events.

  1. "A letter of invitation" from the event organizer
  2. "Employment letter" or "proof of activity"

Student visa

  1. Confirmation of enrolment;
  2. Evidence of payment of tuition fees;
  3. Evidence of sufficient funds for the studies and accommodation;

Medical visa

  1. Medical certificate;
  2. A letter of confirmation from the hospital or health care centre;
  3. Evidence of payment of fees;

Transit visa

  1. A valid visa or required documentation for entry to the country of final destination;
  2. A valid ticket for the country of final destination;
  3. Evidence of sufficient funds for accommodation during stay in Algeria;

Visa fees:

Visa fees vary according to the visa type , duration of stay, number of entries (single or multiple) and the nationality of the applicant:

- British passport: for all type of visa: 85 GBP, except for work and temporary work visa : 270 GBP, transit visa: 60 GBP

- Irish passport: for single entry visa 60 GBP, for multiple entries visa: 100 GBP.

- For other nationalities, please contact the visa section of the Algerian Consulate (+44) 0208 752 8068.

The visa fees are paid only by cash or postal order when lodged at the Consulate (no cheque, no debit or credit card) and only by postal order made payable to "The Algerian Consulate" when sent by mail (no cash no cheque otherwise the application will be rejected).

Note: please note that these fees are non-refundable if your visa application is denied or cancelled.

Processing time:

The processing time may vary according to the nationality of the applicant and the visa type. However, visas submitted in person are generally issued within 10 working days. For the applications sent by mail, the processing time is at least 15 working days;

During certain periods of the year (summer holidays, New Year's holidays, Ramadhan, Eid celebrations), the processing time may be extended by 5 more working days for each period indicated above. This is due to the high volume of applications being processed;

The processing of an application may be delayed if prior agreement by Algerian authorities is required.

The Consulate reserves the right to request additional documentation from applicants;

The Consulate has no express service to process applications merely due to planed travel date, the consulate advise also not to buy non-refudable or non-flexible ticket until the visa is issued;

The date of departure does not affect the processing time of the visa;

The responsibility of any financial loss occured lies with the applicant(s);

For applications sent by mail, the processing time starts only when the application is received by our office;

The Consulate is not responsible for delays due to postal services. Please take note of the code bar number of your recorded envelope to be able to track your returned mail.

Return of passports:

Applicants may pick up their passports at the Consulate between 9:30am-1:00Pm Tuesday to Saturday (please see Opening hours & holidays page for more details) or send a prepaid self-addressed special delivery envelope for nationals residing in the UK and postal order of £8 for nationals living in Ireland;

The Consulate is not responsible for the lost or delays of document by the post office or other visa services.

Period of stay (durée de séjour):

Single entry visa : you can stay the whole granted period (durée du séjour) consecutively;

Multiple entry visa : you can stay the whole granted period (durée du séjour) consecutively or you can stay multiple time deducting the number of days you have stayed each time you enter Algeria;

Visitors must make travel arrangements to Algeria based on the date of entry indicated on their visa. Visitors must not arrive in Algeria before that date;
Day of insurance is the first day of validity;

Visitors must leave Algeria before the expiry date shown on the top right hand corner on the visa sticker;

The maximum period of effective stay in Algeria is 180 days per year.
